Rakitha was presented with a Queen’s Young Leaders Award in 2017 for his work to pioneer a new HIV nano-vacine. He set up ideanerd Sri Lanka, which encourages schoolchildren to get involved in scientific research, and co-founded United Youth Consortium, to raise awareness of sexual reproductive health issues and HIV.
